Alseeda

The Alseeda, Addressing low self esteem and exclusion in disadvantaged adults, project is supported by the European Lifelong Learning programme (LLP), Grundtvig, and is a Learning Partnerships. The project is funded for 2 years from August 2009 until July 2011.

The aim of the Alseeda project is to develop a programme of intervention aimed at parents in areas of high socio-economic deprivation targeting disadvantaged families in an attempt to prepare for further education, training and work.

In targeting these individuals we want to influence our most disadvantaged young people, about to leave school, who have little or no prospects for employment, are at severe risk of social marginalisation and of becoming ‘not in employment and training’. In targeting families we intend to work with parents, our target group identifiable with the help of agencies and schools, by developing guidance materials, information sessions and role play, in an effort to understand and develop creative actions to engage and motivate the young persons. Our intervention programmes will encourage and empower the adults to be pro-active in encouraging their children and at the same time, the parents themselves, to engage into an adult formal or non-formal education or training programme. The single pronged approach of engagement will have the consequence of targeting parents (adults) to return to education, equip them with the necessary skills to be able to inform their children as well as themselves and to act as role models in areas where they may have previously been ill-equipped.

Partnership activities – Mobility

1st meeting – Ostrava, Czech Republic, 17 - 20 September 2009

The main activity was the setting up of the partnership, learning about each other’s organisations, systems and ideas for the project. The distribution of tasks within the partnership, and the planning of activities during the following 2 years took place.

2nd meeting - Roma, Italy, 5 – 8 May 2010

This was the first mobility in which we were able to send learners. In addition to consolidating the partnership and learning about our activities in our countries. It was an opportunity to learn about the Italian education system, allow presentations to be given by learners, see what materials had been produced to support the workshops and listen to some excellent innovation strategy activities.

3rd meeting – Ljubljana, Slovenia, 1- 5 September 2010

Another great opportunity to discuss achievements and lessons learned. Not only partners, but also the students presented their presentations. Some project results are already discernible. Partners agreed on the output of the project materials, and tasks for further cooperation were distributed.

4th meeting is planned to May 2011 in Iasi, Romania

During the first year the partners planned to:
  • Set up a working group to oversee the operation of the project
  • Identify the target group
  • Devise a programme of intervention to deliver to the adult learners
  • During mobility exercises, involve the learners; learn about each partner’s educational system and how they were implementing the project. Share example of good practise and allow for some cultural activities.
  • Deliver a pilot programme to the adults
  • Evaluate the workshops
  • Prepare the format for a Website.

All partners have implemented the agreed activities.

Our activities undertaken and the results achieved so far:

September 2009 - mobility in Ostrava. During the meeting was outlined what we have to do for next period.

From September 2009 until now - the target groups in different localities of our region were addressed.

(The target groups of disadvantaged adults, we have focused on women, for which we have prepared a project "Business lady" is designed for women who want their unfavourable situation (unemployment, financial dependence on a partner or relative, dissatisfaction in the current job) addressed through self-employment and the current lack the resources needed for training and start business. Some of them also have difficulties in providing care for small children or the costs of fares in the course. Project throughout its duration provided free advice to the accounting, tax, legal and consulting in the field of personality development)

  • We prepared teaching material, which helps them to learn and advise how to proceed in setting up a business.
  • We train and provide the above advice.
  • We have established cooperation with municipalities, childcare facilities, etc.

In December 2009 - web site of project Alseeda was created

In January 2010 - clubs for our learners were created, where they can meet, understand new things, exchange experiences, or just have fun.

From January to March 2010 - project for young people which could help them to return either to school or the labour market was prepared

May 2010 - Rome meeting, 3 staff and 1 learner has participated. At the meeting the partners presented their activities in the project and it was an exchange of ideas and good practise.
